About me

Hi! I'm Alexa. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2021. I was exposed to the medical field at an early age as I admirably witnessed my mom work as a nurse (hi mom!). Her work ethic and willingness to put others first inspired me to pursue a career in helping people. During high school, I was introduced to rehabilitation and the field of speech-language pathology (SLP) following my grandfather’s Parkinson’s diagnosis. I went on to initially study nursing in college but knew it wasn’t for me. Once I remembered how much I loved the blend of language and healthcare, I decided to switch and pursue SLP. It was a long journey of perseverance but becoming a SLP has been one of my proudest accomplishments. The clinical challenges have always kept me on my feet, especially during my fellowship year in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) with a tracheostomy and ventilator unit at the start and peak of COVID. I have specialized interests working with the adult/geriatric population and providing cognition, aphasia, dysphagia, motor speech, and voice services. I worked in multiple settings, including SNFs across NJ, acute care hospital (inpatient), and private practice settings. While I started my career working with adults, I also enjoy working with the pediatric population as young as 2 years old. The opportunity to meet and work with a diverse caseload has been so fulfilling! I have taken courses in the following: Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR and AED, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), tracheostomy and ventilator and Passy Muir Speaking Valve, Talk Tools (feeding), Lingraphica AAC, and others. Additionally, I have taken professional development courses to assist in supervising graduate students. Collaborating with other professionals, learning something new everyday, and delving into CEU courses have made me a well-rounded therapist. This career continues to teach me about myself, having resilience, and how to build relationships with clients and families. Communication is immensely essential, so to be part of someone’s journey to improve this skill has been one of my favorite parts of being a SLP. I would describe my clinical style as client-centered, functional, individualized/personalized, family-centric, strengths-based, collaborative and evidence-based, and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.
