About me

Hello! I'm Jayla. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2023. I became an SLP because of my personal experiences and a passion for helping others communicate and improve their quality of life. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the impact that speech and language therapy can have through my siblings' journeys. My sister had a tracheostomy and required a Passy-Muir Valve (PMV), along with pediatric feeding therapy. Seeing the challenges she faced and the progress she made with the right interventions deeply moved me. Additionally, my brother wore hearing aids and needed language therapy. His perseverance and the support he received from skilled therapists inspired me to pursue a career where I could make a similar difference in others' lives. The field of speech-language pathology perfectly blends the medical and educational aspects, allowing me to work in diverse settings and with a variety of clients. I am passionate about helping individuals communicate, find their voice, and improve their ability to swallow and eat safely. The opportunity to support clients in overcoming their challenges and enhancing their communication abilities is incredibly fulfilling and drives my dedication to this profession. While I was in graduate school, my grandfather passed away from a massive stroke, leaving him nonverbal. This heartbreaking experience confirmed that I was in the right field. I knew then that I did not want any other family to face the pain of being unable to communicate with a loved one after a stroke. This reinforced my commitment to helping individuals regain their communication abilities, ensuring they can connect with their families and loved ones during critical times. I have worked in settings such as acute care, outpatient, private practice, home health, and teletherapy. I would describe my clinical style as individualized/personalized.
