About me

Hi! I'm Katherine. I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in 2021. I became a bilingual SLP because I’m passionate about advocating for individuals who need support in expressing themselves. Growing up as an Afro-Latina in a bilingual home, I saw the unique challenges and strengths that come with learning and communicating in multiple languages. I wanted to make a real difference in my community by helping people, particularly those with special needs, navigate and overcome communication barriers. It’s fulfilling to be able to guide students and their families in improving not only their communication skills but also their social-emotional wellness, and to see how that opens up opportunities for them in life. I have worked in elementary schools, high schools, home-based, clinics, and hospitals. I've pursued several certifications and specialized training to enhance my practice as an SLP. I have a Bilingual Extension Certificate from Teachers College, Columbia University, which deepened my understanding of bilingual language development and intervention. Additionally, I earned a Women in Leadership Certificate from Cornell University, which has been invaluable in my roles as both a mentor and a future leader within the field. To integrate holistic approaches into my work, I'm also a certified yoga and social-emotional learning facilitator, which allows me to incorporate mindfulness into my sessions. I have taught graduate-level courses and served as an adjunct professor and graduate fellow, sharing my insights on topics like bilingualism, neurodiversity affirming practices, and evidence-based interventions. These experiences and credentials have empowered me to develop meaningful, inclusive strategies that support both language development and emotional wellness in diverse populations. I would describe my clinical style as holistic, individualized/personalized, family-centric, strengths-based, sensory integrated, and rooted in client empowerment to create self-advocates.
